Board Members

The Club’s Board is responsible for providing the platform for the coaches, athletes and referees to experience training and playing at the highest level in Australia.

The Board is made up of a group of professionals with a cross section of skills in high performance sport, high performance water polo, business and finance. The Club is run as a professional sporting club with decisions made to ensure high professional standards are maintained and high quality people are involved.

The Board is committed to establishing a culture and team environment within the club that all club players and members will be proud to be associated with.

GARY BARCLAY
President

Gary has a Master of Business in Sport Management and 30 years’ experience in high performance sport. He was a Board member of Swimming Australia for 7 years and Chair of Swimming Australia’s High-Performance Committee for 5 years. Gary played for Melbourne Collegians many years ago and has just returned to playing the sport with Richmond. Gary is currently team manager / coach of the NYP Dragons State League 1 women’s team and is a past President of Water Polo Victoria.

DANNY FLAHIVE
Vice President

Danny has been involved in water polo all his life and is well known around Australia and across in the world for his contribution to water polo. Danny played in Victorian Junior and Senior teams and in Australian Junior teams. As a coach, Danny has coached the Victorian National League Men’s team, the Victorian u/20 and Senior Women’s teams and both the men’s and Women’s teams at all levels at Footscray WPC. Danny is one of Australia’s most accomplished referees working at International, National and State level competitions on an on-going basis.

RUSSELL SMALL
Secretary

Russell has founded and operated a number of successful public and private businesses. He is currently the Richmond Men’s 1st grade coach and is a Life Member of Victorian Water Polo , Richmond and Victorian Tigers National League Clubs. In addition, he is a past Board member of Australian and Victorian Water Polo as well as past Chairman of the Australian National League Water Polo (2002-2008). Furthermore, he was President of the Victorian Tigers National League Water Polo Club (1990-2012) and President of Richmond Water Polo for over 10+ years.

ANDREW POST
Treasurer

Andrew Post is an investor and director with a career in private equity and he spent more than a decade as CEO of a family office before retiring from full-time work in 2018. He is a director of Clean Up Australia, and he is the current President of Richmond Water Polo Club having been involved as a committee member with Richmond since 2014/15. Andrew is a chartered accountant, has a Bachelor of Economics (ANU) and an MBA (AGSM) and is a member of the Institute of Company Directors.

GILLIAN MANSON
Board Member

Gillian Manson is a people-focused business owner & manager committed to delivering service excellence with professional, value-based work outcomes. Gillian has the unique capability to work in both Not-for-Profit and corporate environments. She has extensive governance knowledge and experience both as a Board / Committee member and in reporting to Boards, as well as extensive sport industry knowledge and capability through sport governance, administration and practice. As a past Executive Officer of Water Polo Victoria and a driving force behind the success of past Victorian clubs in the former National League competition, Gillian is a huge asset to the Board.

RICHARD PHILLIPS
Board Member

Richard is an investment banker of 25 years’ experience and is currently Co-Head of Greenhill Australia and Global Vice-Chairman of the firm. Prior to this role Richard was a Partner at Goldman Sachs and an Executive Director at Macquarie Bank. Richard is a past President of Water Polo Victoria and became involved in water polo when his eldest daughter started playing the sport as a junior 6 years ago.

KIA PAJOUHESH
Board Member

Dr Kia Pajouhesh BSc, BDSc, is founder of Smile Solutions, Australia’s largest private dental practice. A scientist and dentist graduating from the University of Melbourne with Class 1 Honours, Kia engineered the ideal model to nurture both patients and clinicians. Smile Solutions has more than 150,000 patients today, and offers the full spectrum of clinical care at their location in Manchester Unity Building, Melbourne. Kia has also established a number of health-related businesses, including Core Dental Group with locations across metropolitan Melbourne. Smile Solutions was awarded the Telstra Business of the Year in 2014, and other Australian business awards for service excellence, employer of choice and innovation. Kia was a past finalist for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
